I pulled up to the hardware store and watched this take place right in front of me. This guy sees two kids walking in the pouring rain while one is pushing his broken bicycle and he stops everything he is doing and spends 5 minutes getting drenched with rain while he fixes this little boy’s bike. These kids rode off so happy and he left with a smile on his face from ear to ear. As a matter of fact, he put a smile on my face too. This is the America that I know. High five to you good sir!

New Friends

I’m not sure who this man is and I’m sure he just wanted to eat his meal in peace but Brekken had other plans. We took all 6 kids to eat at Fernandos and all Brekken wanted was to eat with him. He was continuously crying and as I got up to take him to the car this man asked to get him. Brekken instantly stopped crying and sat and ate chips and salsa and had conversation with him until he was ready to go. Brekken was completely content and told him bye like he had known him his whole life. It’s the small things! So, if you know him, please tell him again I said thank you. He didn’t have to do what he did but completely made Brekken’s whole day

Turning the Jeep Around

“This is one of the many reasons I love my husband. As we are driving home with Kylie and Gage, Chris suddenly turns the jeep around and says ‘Take the food home and come back and get me.’ I didn’t know what he had seen but said ok. We pull up and Chris takes the push mower from this elderly gentleman. I pray that my son learns from this and randomly helps people do things like his father does.”

From Policeman to Chef

While out on a check the well-being call yesterday (November 12), our Community Mental Health Liaison (CMHL) Jennifer Beard snuck this picture of Deputy Greg Stegall channeling his inner Gordon Ramsey. While at the home, the two learned the individual was recovering from surgery and had not eaten in a couple of days, so while Jennifer began making calls to get the individual some assistance, Deputy Stegall prepared something to eat. The individual declared it the best omlette they had ever eaten!
Not pictured are the dog, cats and horses that Deputy Stegall and Jennifer made sure were fed and watered before their departure.

Random Act of Kindness

It’s hard to know if the person who lost their top will ever go back to the park looking for it again. But if they do, they will find that a complete stranger took it home, washed it, ironed it and returned it with a kind note, leaving it in a protective cover. And if the person doesn’t come back? Well, every single other person who sees it (including all of us who were fortunate to see this picture) will be reminded that there are wonderful people out there who are willing to do caring things just because. And that, in and of itself, has the power to change how we are feeling, shift our mindset, and encourage us to likewise do a random act of kindness as we have no idea who may desperately be needing it!

Patrolling for Monsters

“My little man has been having severe anxiety since we moved into the new house. He’s so used to sharing a room with his big sister, who excitedly has her own room now too. I’ve tried everything under the sun to get him to sleep in his own room. Nothing is helping. He says he has something wrong with his head and that he can’t stop the scary thoughts that are creeping into it. He begged me to call the police and a doctor to help him. Seriously breaks my mama heart into a million pieces.

So, in an effort to continue doing everything I can to help my son, we went to the station today so He could talk with a police officer. After the talk, officer Schwartz came over to our home to fully inspect his bedroom to assure him that there were no bad guys and that nothing in his room that would hurt him. Truly takes a village to raise kids right these days! I am beyond thankful that Officer Schwartz took time out of his busy day to come over and talk with Hayden.

Afterwards he did sleep in his room all night! But didn’t go down without a fight (a 3 hour long one) I’ll fast forward the story and say that when I woke him up this morning at 7 a.m., he was SO proud of himself that he made it in there all night!

Then, as I was snapping back to school pictures of Hayden this morning, Hayden’s face suddenly lit up and he said look mama, officer Schwartz is here. He came to see how Hayden did at bedtime last night and got some 1st day of school pictures with him!

Hayden said, ‘I thought of being a cowboy just like you.’

Officer Bruce told him he thinks of what makes him happy when he lays down each night instead of the bad things that may happen during his days).

I’m just at a loss of words honestly. Officer Schwartz, if you’re reading this, thank you from the bottom of my mama heart. The kindness you’ve shown Hayden certainly doesn’t go unnoticed and I know he will remember this forever. This too will pass and I’m happy Officer Schwartz had a hand in Hayden getting over this very normal hump most children experience.”

Planting Hope

A local in our Vermont community, Alexandra Thomas, just posted the following:

Hey Northshire community

If you know me, you know I love plants and always have. Over the last few years, I have found that they have helped me immensely on so many levels.

With COVID, as we are all aware, so many things that bring joy to our lives have been limited. That even includes access to house plants/pots for indoor as well as outdoor.

I decided I want to set up a shelf. I will be breaking up some of my own, and putting out plants that I have already been divided. The idea is, if you need a little something to brighten your day or your house, grab a plant! If you are interested, and have plants around that you want to divide and make more babies, leave the babes for others to enjoy and give someone a smile! For anyone who doesn’t know how to divide, I’m happy to help! Trades are also welcome If you have extra pots laying around, I’d love to take them off your hands for more transplants!

One thing I keep thinking about, is that seasonal depression is very real. With COVID, this winter could be a doozy for some (myself included), and house plants can do wonders

• For anyone that will be picking up a plant, know these guys are established babies but not fully mature.

• All will continue to grow, and with certain varieties they will produce more babes for you to enjoy, and maybe spread next year .

• Every pot I used is different, so please be aware of drainage holes not only to give proper watering, but to also save your furniture .

• Each one is perfectly imperfect

• I will have the shelf set up mid week in attempt to keep them local and within our community.

• I am limited thus far, please only take one and keep others in mind. Not all of us are in the same boat

• Please put sheer back over shelves in order to protect some of the plants from the sun
