Having a role model can make all the difference. Fortunately for this young group of boys, an empathetic and caring policeman chose to see their potential and gifted them in so many ways for their future. He knew they might not relate as well to him as to Shaquille O’Neal so that is who he brought to speak to them. Judaism teaches us that we have two eyes, one to look within, and one to look outside of ourselves. The message he gave them resonated because he could see them within him and himself within them. And as Judaism also teaches, words from the heart, enter the heart. And that is exactly what happened through his powerful thoughts, speech and action.
