This woman had survived the horrors of the Holocaust. Then, at 91 years old, she contracted corona. Clearly things didn’t look good and end-of-life care was required. And the nurse on-call was Ashley Javaheri, But Ashley did not just focus on taking care of this woman’s body, but she also focused on her soul. The Hebrew word for healing is “refuah” and the letters can be switched around to spell “ohr peh” meaning the “light of the mouth.” Ashley ensured that she speak positively and fill this woman’s room with beautiful words and sounds that she may recognize. She provided love, care, inspiration and Jewish music, whatever she could to offer her comfort. And in so doing, she helped her heal and she helped save her life.
