For nine years Dustin and Caren Moore struggled with fertility issues, desperately wondering if they would ever become parents. So it was a miraculous day when they learned that they were going to be adopting a baby girl in Colorado. The only thing is that they live in California which meant that they would be taking their little one on a flight home at just 8 days old.
So these brand new very anxious parents boarded their Southwest flight having no idea how it would go or what to expect. But what happened was something they never could have imagined. As they went to change her diaper, they were stopped by a flight attendant and passenger commenting on their adorable newborn and asking what led them traveling with such a young baby. They relayed the adoption story and before they knew it, a congratulatory message was heard on the intercom informing all the travelers that there was a very special guest on board…their little girl who had just been adopted. The flight erupted in applause and numerous passengers came over to their seats to offer congratulations. In case that wasn’t a beautiful enough gesture, each passenger was handed a napkin and pen to leave a note of encouragement or advice to the new parents. The flight attendant then collected these and gave them to the Moore’s to bring home with them.
While the suggestions will no doubt be helpful, the fact that a group of strangers, sitting on a flight at midnight, took the time to reach out to this new family, is what is really moving. It is easy to feel overwhelmed with a newborn and often even lonely with sleepless nights. But the Moore’s will always know that their little girl was loved from the very beginning, not only by them and their family and friends, but by an entire Southwest flight who let them know they were thinking of them.
