The way to be grateful for what we have is to acknowledge the people who helped get us there. This is why the Hebrew word for gratitude, hod, is the same as acknowledgement, as they are intended to go hand in hand. Josh Johnson was making his stand-up debut when he mentioned that he had a special guest in the audience. Mr. Ward, his high school teacher was there. Because when Johnson’s dream came true, and he was invited to the Tonight Show, he immediately thought of the person who had believed in him from the beginning. He expressed his gratitude through his acknowledgement.
