Hannah Gavios suffered two extreme traumas. On the physical level, she fell off a 150 foot cliff, partially paralyzing her body when she broke her back. On an emotional level, her fall was in at attempt to escape the attacker who was chasing her. After such a situation, it would be easy to understand if she wanted to wallow in self-pity at the life she lost in trying to protect herself. But that is not Hannah. Hannah takes a challenge and uses it to do more…to become more. And so, the very thing that was taken from her that day–the use of her ankles and feet–is the very thing she works on, jump after jump, to accomplish the seemingly impossible. And through her hard work, she crutched her way through the 26.2 miles of the NYC Marathon. Jewish philosophy teaches that “nothing stands in the way of will.” Hannah is unbelievable proof of that!
