Terrell Murphy figured he was just doing his job when he smiled at his customers at McDonalds and asked how they were doing. But he was doing so much more. His warmth, kindness and genuine care about all those he met impacted people and made a lasting impression. So much so, that when it was time for his last day before leaving for college, those customers wanted to thank him and send him off with some gifts for their appreciation. More than what was in the gift basked though were the thoughts behind it. Terrell made a difference to these people, simply by being a kind person. As we go through our days, we can sometimes wonder if anyone even notices or cares about us. Especially strangers. But this beautiful story shows us that what we do and how we act makes an impact. And sometimes the smallest things, like a nice smile, can make someone’s day. The Hebrew word for a smile is “chiyuch” whose first two letters spell “chai” which means “life.” Smile–to anyone and everyone–as it gives life to others, and brings meaning to your own.
