What is so powerful about this post is that it is clear that the person doing this wonderful good deed had no idea that anyone noticed. And it is still not clear if the person even still realizes that he was seen and how much his act impacted others. This man did something to help another. He didn’t do it for a reward or recognition or attention. He just did it because it was the right thing to do.
“Tzedakah” is the Hebrew word for “charity” which is understood as giving assistance and money to the poor and needy or to other worthy causes. However, the nature of tzedakah is very different from the idea of charity in that its root is “tzedek” meaning “justice,” “fairness” or “righteousness.” In Judaism, giving to the poor is not viewed as a generous, magnanimous act; it is simply an act of justice and righteousness, the performance of a duty, giving the poor their due. And that is exactly what this man clearly felt and did.
