She isn’t even two years old in this video, but “Little Zen Monkey” has a number of lessons that us adults need to learn. As she fearlessly scales the rock climbing wall, her strength and focus are incredible, as is her confidence. Watching her for less than two minutes has shown me the following:

  1. Know Your Goal: If you know where you are heading, you won’t get lost along the way. She knows she wants to get to the top, so as long as she is moving upwards, she knows she is heading in the right direction.
  2. There are Multiple Paths to the Same Goal: Sometimes the step we want to take in life isn’t working out for us. But there is always another one. It might require a farther stretch, or maybe it is closer than we think. At times we may even need to take a step down in order to reach the next step that will allow us to get that much higher.
  3. Every Journey Begins with a Step: From the ground, the top of the rock wall seems impossibly far away. But every step gets you that much closer.
  4. Age Doesn’t Matter: I don’t think there are that may 19-months-old toddlers scaling rock climbing walls. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t possible. If you want to achieve something, never feel that you are too young or too old to make it happen.
  5. Follow Your Talents: Not everyone can scale walls. Clearly this little girl showed in interest in doing so. And her parents then encouraged it and gave her those opportunities.
