Meet Mr. Dom Moore. He was cleaning up following the high school graduation he helped organize when he noticed one of his students still sitting there. He asked him why he was there and was told that the kid needed a ride home. He asked where his family was and the student responded that no one came to his graduation. Heartbroken for this kid, Mr. Moore told him he would give him a ride home but first offered to take him out to a restaurant of his choice. He chose The Cheesecake Factory. As they ate a hearty meal, Mr. Moore kept encouraging the young man, telling him that he expected great things from him. While generally he wouldn’t share such stories online, he was so moved by the encounter that he posted the situation to Facebook. And then the comments came pouring in as well as people wanting to help. As the student didn’t have a way to receive donations, Mr. Moore posted his cashapp account ($mooredaeducator) and as of a week ago, more than $5000 was raised in donations. Because of Mr. Moore’s kindness and taking the time to notice the needs of his student:
–The student got a job and started working at Amazon
–Mr. Moore took him to open a checking account with the money raised for him
–He is thinking about attending college
–He is working to help him get a car
Judaism teaches that one’s student is like one’s child…and clearly we see this is the case for Mrs. Moore and this young man. By taking the time to ask what was going on, he transformed his student’s life and shown us all to always take the time to reach out to another. We never know the impact we can have….
