Thirty-seven years had passed but neither had forgotten about the other. One man, Eugene Pugliese, Jr., was doing his job as a firefighter when he saved the life of a little four-year-old girl. That little girl, Deirdre Taylor, had wanted to thank him all of these years, growing up knowing he was the reason she was alive, but she had no idea how to find him. She now works as a nurse, likewise dedicating her life to saving others. And when Covid hit, she left her home in Virginia to work in the NYC hospitals, the epicenter of the virus. She brought with her the newspaper clipping, with Eugene’s name on it, hoping she may be able to find him when she was in NY. But she had no idea if he was even still alive. Then one day at the hospital a group of firefighters came in to thank the first responders. She showed them the article and asked if anyone knew who he was. And sure enough, they did. Eugene and Deirdre have since reconnected over the phone and as soon as it is safe to do so, they will meet in person. After all these years, Eugene, now 75, has learned that every single day he has been thought of and appreciated. And now, due to the dedication of Deirdre doing her utmost to help others, she finally gets to thank the person who risked his life to save hers.
