Richard Farmer doesn’t generally stop and pick up hitchhikers, but this one guy standing with his thumb out and hoping for a ride caught his eye. You see, the man on the side of a road was 93-year-old Mike Cain. He told Richard that he needed to get to a local store to buy some Hershey Bars for him and his wife. For the past 20 years, every night he and his 94-year-old wife, Doris, would share a bar together and now, with quarantine, he wanted to stock up so that their tradition wouldn’t stop. He was so dedicated to making this happen that he was willing to walk the few miles to the store, but fortunately he didn’t have to when Richard stopped. Not only did Richard sanitize his car to make sure it would be safe for Mike, but he made sure he got the 35 bars and he gave Mike his number so that he could help him with future trips. And that he did, with grocery shopping and other errands. The sweetest addition to this story is that the Hershey company heard about this loving gesture of Mike’s and kind help of Richard’s and responded by sending them a ton of chocolate!
