This letter is a beautiful demonstration of someone who realizes how fortunate he is and uses it to help others who may not be. COVID-19 is making everyone anxious in different ways, but the financial hardship is very real. By allowing people to use their rent money either for necessities, savings or to help others, it takes away a little of that pressure and allows home to be comforting once again. The Hebrew word for home is “bayit” which is the same as the second letter of the Hebrew alphabet, “beit.” This is the reminder that when we reach out to another, when we make it clear that no one is alone, that is when we can truly feel at home.
