Can there be any greater deed than knowing you have saved a life? And for the one whose life has been saved, can you imagine how you thank the person who is responsible? This week the opportunity arose for Binyomin Gewirtz, bone marrow donor,  to meet Scott Novorr, the bone marrow recipient. They met at the Gift of Life Marrow Registry’s Celebrating Life event in Midtown, Manhattan. Though they live over 1,000 miles apart, since the transplant in 2018, they have been and forever will be connected in every sense of the word. Scott knows that without Binyomin, he would not have made it until today as he was fighting a very aggressive form of leukemia. Binyomin’s  act of selflessness and kindness not only gave Scott life but gave four children a healthy father. Judaism teaches that to save a life is to save an entire world. Each and every one of us is a unique being that is completely irreplaceable. Not only can we create generations to come, but our every deed impacts our lives and the lives of those around us. Watching the interaction and love of two men whose paths may have never crossed if not for this life-saving act, is a reminder of just how profound a difference we can all make in what we do.
