Corey Simons was sitting on the subway trying to re-learn fractions. His son had just failed his math test and Corey, a single father, wanted to help him. The problem was he couldn’t remember how to do them and just sat there looking confused. Fortunately, another rider who sat down next to him sensed this and asked if he could help. Corey explained the problem and the man told him he used to be a math teacher and proceeded to go through the problems with him, explaining a method for him to both learn it and then be able to use to teach his son. For about twenty minutes these men, complete strangers, went over fractions together. Fortunately, Denise Wilson who was sitting across from them on the train, caught the interaction and posted the picture and the story. In Hebrew the word for education is “chinuch” and its root means “inspiration.” This beautiful interaction shows the connection and how through this stranger’s willingness to help educate, he inspired so many others as well.
