This story is powerful for the obvious reasons. A man chooses to generously provide a homeless man with an expensive, warm coat and puts hundreds of dollars in the pocket for him. But what moves me most about this is his self-reflection. He realizes that when he is cold, all he has to do is walk into a store and buy a coat. He realizes that he never has to worry about not being able to afford something he needs. And that awareness is what prompts him to do for another what this homeless man is unable to do for himself. He is giving out of gratitude for his blessings, rather than pity for the other. And that is how it should be. We should give because we want to share what we have. And when we do, we use our gifts exactly as they are intended to be.
