We all know that teachers impact their student’s lives. But we may not always realize just how much. This 30-year-old man, who has special needs, was found walking alone on the street. Out of concern, he was brought to the police to find the people who care for him. When they asked him for a contact name, he said “Michele Girard.” She had been his teacher…in junior high. She hadn’t heard from him or seen him in over 10 years, but when he said her name, and the police contacted her, she was ready and willing to take him in. And now that unfortunately his father, who had been suffering from leukemia, has passed, he has no family left. But not for long as Girard is now trying to become his legal guardian. This story shows us that there are times we have no idea how much we are affecting someone’s life, and even many years later, we may just be the very first person thought of when someone is asked who their family is.
