When we have someone or something to love, we have an innate desire to give and to protect. This unlikely pair shows us just that. At first glance, this big, strong, tattoo-covered man may seem an unlikely caregiver, but watching him interact with this tiny, needy monkey, shows an entirely different side of him. Through his giving, it is clear that he receives so much in return. He has someone who needs him and is dependent on him, and the more he cares for the baby monkey, the more satisfaction and happiness he clearly feels. This is why the root of the Hebrew word for love, “ahavah” is “hav” which means “to give.” When we give to one that we love, we increase the love that we feel. And we end up giving to ourselves so deeply as well, specifically through the giving to another.
