High school is a challenging time for most teenagers. It is easy to feel alone, ignored and out of place. Kids are filled with insecurity as they navigate their way from childhood to young adulthood. It is unfortunately also a time where relationships with one’s parents are often strained, leaving these kids pretty vulnerable and unsure who they can trust and rely on. So when their day begins with a warm, supportive and loving wave, it can make all the difference in the world. Every morning Tinny Davidson waves to the kids as they pass her house on the way to school. No matter what happened in their own home that morning, or on their way to school, before they enter those school doors, every kid knows that they were noticed and that someone is watching them and thinking about them. That wave shows them that they matter and that they are not invisible as they sometimes may think. And who knows how many moods her wave may have changed and lives those waves may have transformed over the years. In Hebrew, the word for “happiness” is “simcha” which are the same letters that spell, “thought” which is “machshava.” Tinny is always smiling, always radiating joy. And that happiness permeates all who see her, and can shift one’s thoughts from negative to positive. While Tinny clearly didn’t think she was doing much of anything, her impact has not gone unnoticed and now that Tinny is moving, these kids are showing their gratitude and appreciation for all she has done for them.
