For all too many, one’s job is something that is dreaded and simply an unnecessary evil in life to pay the bills. But ideally, when our job is something that we feel uses our talents and abilities, and a position where we are able to give of ourselves and are appreciated in return, then it no longer feels like work. In Hebrew, the word for work is “avodah.” It’s root, “eved” means “servant.” If one feels that they are just going through the motions, day to day, then they feel like a slave to their job. But when one knows they are making a difference, then they are a true public servant, and their work is a labor of love.
